Random 5 - Kitty Edition

By Shelby Knox on Fri, 03/19/2010 - 11:16

I never had a cat growing up – my dad didn’t like them and our Chow Chow Bear would probably have categorized a kitten as “dinner” instead of “playmate.” Therefore, I made it into adulthood decidedly not a cat person.

But when I moved to NYC, the house I was staying in came equipped with Galahad – a ten-pound orange and white ball of fur who became the most loving alarm clock I’ve ever had. I don’t live with him anymore – I visit, often – and I travel too much to have a cat of my own, so I’m slowly becoming an internet cat lady. Today’s random five are the sites contributing to my decline:

1. I Can Has Cheezburger? – The original kitty craze site is, of course, the home of the world famous lolcats. In 2007, a Hawaiian blogger posted a picture of a gray cat with the words “I can has cheezburger?” and the fad quickly took off. You can caption your own pictures, comment on others, and post your favorites to all your social media sites.

2. Stuff on My Cat – Yes, this site is exactly what it sounds like – pictures of cats with random stuff stacked on them. The most normal pics involve cats in costume or in sunglasses but the really strange ones are adorned with reptiles or holding a plethora of remote controls. At first I thought this was cruel but most of the cats look mildly bored – and I know from experience that a cat doesn’t hesitate to use his teeth if he doesn’t like what’s going down!

3. Cat Blizzard Videos – I think these, on the other hand, are cat cruelty. Aggregated during blizzard season, these videos expose mean people who think it’s hilarious to toss their cat into several feet of snow. How would you like it if I picked YOU up and tossed you off the balcony into a snow drift, buddy? Yeah, thought so.

4. Talking Cats – No really, they talk. So bizarre. So cool.

5. Cats in Sinks – Tagline: “What is Cats in Sinks? It's obvious. It's about cats. And kittens. Who like sinks. And basins.” Just try to keep yourself from clicking that ‘show me another cat in a sink!’ button.
