Grant Writer
Girls Leadership Institute (GLI) is seeking an experienced grant writer to help us raise funds for GLI seed money, operations and programs. We are looking for someone who is experienced in grant research, identification, writing and submission and is also passionate about girls’ social and emotional development.
The GLI Grant Writer will primarily be responsible for the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to third-party entities. The position is also responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on the performance of program activities that are funded by third-party public and private sources.
The GLI Grant Writer will work closely with the GLI Executive Director in order to:
- Gather information that will easily allow him/her to understand the project or program for which funding is sought.
- Acquire and maintain sound knowledge and understanding of the organization, and use that knowledge and understanding to better comprehend all projects and programs for which funding is needed.
- Research, analyze and identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs.
- Compile, write, and edit all grant applications exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling.
- Review the budget of a project or program for which funding is sought and make recommendations to better present it to grant-making organizations.
- Identifies funding opportunities and new program areas to match institutional priorities.
- Engages with program officers at organizations to solicit invitations to submit proposals.
- Develop individual grant proposals in accordance with each grant-making organization's preferences and follow each organization's guidelines.
- Keep in contact with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application in order to be able to supply additional supportive material.
- Manage the process of supplying progress reports when required by a grant-making organization that has funded a project or program.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate:
- Holds a bachelors degree and a minimum of three to five years of grant writing experience
- Has experience in grant research, identification and completion as well as receiving and following through on grant awards
- Is self-motivated and resourceful, a strategic thinker and comfortable working independently
- Knows how to work successfully as part of an dispersed virtual team
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Feels passionate about girl-empowerment and leadership
Position is part-time on an hourly basis.
