Get inspired. Raise your voice. Learn how to get results. Change the world. That’s what’s on tap this summer in our new program, Leadership for Life.
What does it really take to make a difference?
It takes passion. You’ll explore what really matters to you in your life and the world. What makes you angry? What do you wish you could change about your neighborhood, your city, your country? What does it mean to be an activist? What does feminism mean to you? Why is a person’s race, class, sexuality, gender identity and religion so important to who they become? Get ready to go deep and explore these questions and more.
It takes skills. All the talk in the world doesn’t matter if you can’t make your voice heard. Get ready to learn how to leverage the tools of social media, including blogging and Twitter, to raise your voice. When you choose your action project, you’ll decide what skills you need to make it happen – and we’ll work with you to help you learn it.
It takes results. You’re going to create a project you’ll be proud of. Working in partnership with a local women’s or girls’ organization in Philadelphia, you’ll support a vital cause and, hey, maybe have something awesome for your college resume.
It takes teamwork. Each week, you’ll go outside to tackle challenges by water and land to test and build your leadership skills. Expect 40ft rope challenges and day-long canoe trips.

Life at GLI
In Leadership for Life, we offer much more freedom than your first year at GLI. Chill on campus during your free time or lounge in the café. And, as always, the summer is chock full of the wacky GLI traditions you’ve grown to love (water fights, love notes, Slip ‘N Slide, Eye Moo).
Food
Every meal is served buffet style. Campers pick from a wide selection of delicious options. Counselors are aware of what makes it onto campers’ plates and request that protein show up a couple times a day. We encourage girls to have at least two or three colors on their plate for lunch and dinner.
Schedule
We keep GLI campers moving!
- 8:45 – Theater games and improvisation
- 9:30 – Morning workshops
- 12:00pm – Lunch
- 12:30 – Free time. The highlight of this time is mail! Letters and care packages are distributed, and everyone enjoys an hour of snacking on gummy worms, playing games, reading quietly or just swapping stories.
- 1:30 – Small group advisory discussions
- 2:00 – Pick your art project!
- 4:00 – Fitness or free time. It’s time to get moving. If it’s hot, we head to the pool. Other choices include a short hike, yoga, basketball, Pilates, soccer, tennis and more.
- 6:00 – Dinner
- 7:00 – Evenings are 100% fun! It's either free time or activities that include game show night, scavenger hunt, mask making, jewelry making, a trip to the movies, and much more.
- 9:00 – Love notes! Hall time, then we get ready for bed. An adored GLI tradition, Love Notes is the time where we gather in the hall, dance to GLI playlists, and write notes to fellow campers who made our day!
On the weekends, we love sleeping in, watching cartoons and eating breakfast in our PJs! After a morning of tie dye, crafts and bubble contests we might head to the lake for the day, or snuggle indoors with hot chocolate and a movie. If the stars are out, we might stay up late to find the Big Dipper.
