Bio

Shelby Knox is nationally known as the subject of the Sundance award-winning film, The Education of Shelby Knox, a 2005 documentary chronicling her teenage activism for comprehensive health education in her high school. An itinerant organizer and freelance writer, Shelby travels across the country to speak to and organize with young women on college campuses for social justice and women’s empowerment.

In 2009 she designed and taught the Sophomore Summer program at GLI, during which returning campers plan a project to create change in their communities. As a recovering “good girl,” Shelby is working on being REAL in all her interactions, including this bio. This includes admitting she's from Texas and that she doesn't like ice cream, even Herrell's. She loves flavored coffee, P!nk, Twitter, and CSPAN and is a bizarrely good opera singer, which comes in handy during her favorite GLI game, Hot Spot.
